One of the Midwest’s largest recycling and solid waste management forums is coming to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this fall for an in-person conference. The 2021 Iowa Recycling and Solid Waste Management Conference will be held October 4-6, 2021, at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cedar Rapids Convention Complex. During the conference, decision-makers in the fields of recycling, sustainability and waste management will tour noteworthy facilities, participate in educational sessions, enjoy networking, and explore the Tri-State area.

The conference is planned and hosted by the Iowa Recycling Association (IRA) and the Iowa Society of Solid Waste Operations (ISOSWO), the foremost organizations representing recycling and solid waste professionals in Iowa. Organizers anticipate about 300 registrants and exhibitors who will be visiting the area over a 4-day timeframe. The event kicks off Monday, October 4, with a golf outing at Gardner Golf Course, a young professional luncheon, welcome session, educational sessions, and board meetings for the IRA and ISOSWO.

On Monday, Eric Holthaus will give a keynote address titled “Community Climate Action Plan” addressing how Cedar Rapids is pursuing ambitious goals for greenhouse gas reduction, climate resilience, equity, and basic needs for all residents. The Cedar Rapids Convention Complex will be open to all those interested in learning about developments in the recycling, sustainability and solid waste industries. All are welcome to visit the exhibit hall on Monday, October 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 5 from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m., regardless of whether they have registered as a conference guest.

Tuesday night, a pub-and-grub crawl will be held in downtown Cedar Rapids. On Wednesday, October 6, conference attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency Landfill and Compost Facility, Can Shed and Indian Creek Nature Center. The conference committee is monitoring local, state, and national health recommendations to ensure the safety of all conference attendees.
