New Bedford Waste Services, LLC, announced recently that it has secured financing to construct its proposed "zero-waste" recycling facility in Rochester.

According to a release issued on December 27, the company plans to open the 100,000-square-foot facility, known as Zero Waste Solutions or ZWS, in the fall.

New Bedford Waste is a sister company of ABC Disposal Service, a regional waste hauling and recycling company that has a number of municipal contracts on Cape Cod, including one with Mashpee.

“We are very pleased to now have completed the long process to finish the financing of the ZERO Waste Solutions facility,” said chief executive officer Michael A. Camara of ABC. “Combining the capabilities of our network of transfer stations and our extensive hauling operations along with the innovative processing technologies of ZWS will allow us to improve our ability to recover a larger percentage of materials which will be diverted from disposal.”

The Zero Waste facility will accept municipal solid waste as well as residential and commercial single-stream recyclables, co-mingled recyclables and source-separated recyclables.

The facility will sort trash manually and mechanically in order to pick out recyclable materials. The remaining solid waste would be compacted into briquettes to be used as a fuel source known as EcoTac, an alternative to coal.

The Rochester facility will use innovation technology from the Pocasset-based group WERC-2.

Page Building Corporation of Stoughton will begin construction of the new facility and, in July, CP Group of San Diego, California, will begin installing the recycling equipment, Mr. Camara stated.

The company originally intended to open the recycling facility in 2014 but has had setbacks, including a fire to the Rochester building and a bankruptcy case that was settled in May.

Under Chapter 11, the bankruptcy court approves a plan of reorganization that provides for payment of claims in full or in part, depending on the priority and type of claim.
