According to data released Monday by the Butler Township board, nearly eight tons of waste was collected from 126 Butler Township households during the second quarter of the year- including more than five tons of TVs, 470 pounds of computers, 430 pounds of monitors and roughly 1,600 pounds of paint.
Butler Township rolled out the new service at the beginning of the year through a new contract with Waste Management. The township commissioners have been keeping tabs on what’s getting recycled to see if residents are actually using the service. Data shows residents of Butler Township are taking advantage of a township service offered for the first time this year- free recycling of electronics and hazardous household waste.
In order to recycle electronics and hazardous waste, residents have to call Waste Management at a special number (1-800-449-7587 ) and tell them what you would like to get rid of. The company then sends an appropriate container to your home. You fill the container with the item and place it out on your curb.
