Recology, an employee-owned company headquartered in San Francisco, has announced the purchase of substantially all the assets of Davis Waste Removal Co. Inc., previously the exclusive solid waste and recycling collection company in the city of Davis and a portion of Yolo County.
As part of the transaction, Recology acquired two solid waste collection contracts — one with the city of Davis, and the other with Yolo County — as well the Davis Recycling Center located at 2727 Second St., Davis.
Recology started collecting and processing organics, recyclables, garbage, and construction and demolition material for both jurisdictions beginning Friday.
Recology will continue working closely with the city of Davis and Yolo County throughout the transition process.
Recology will be working to safely transition customer account information to their systems in the coming weeks,
according to spokesman Eric Potashner. Residents and businesses do not need to cancel services with the previous
provider or to register with Recology.
Recology does not anticipate the transition to Recology services will result in any changes to truck routes, service days, rates, or otherwise disrupt daily collection, Potashner noted. Collection service days will stay the same, and Recology will continue to use customers’ existing carts unless broken or damaged. Damaged carts will be removed, recycled and replaced with Recology carts as needed.
“It’s our goal to provide the highest quality and best value of services to the Davis and Yolo County communities,” said Scott Pardini, Recology Davis general manager. “We are excited to work with residents, business owners, and the City and County to help reach their recycling goals.”
Recology is an employee-owned, resource recovery company providing materials collection, processing, commodity sales, and outreach and education to homes and businesses on the West Coast.
