ecomaine will welcome Robin Wiener, President of the Institute for Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) to its annual meeting on Thursday, June 20, 2018 at Thompson’s Point Brick South in Portland.  Wiener, a world-renowned expert in the recycling industry, will address the future of municipal waste management, following a prolonged stretch of uncertainty in the recycling markets.  Wiener will also address what the global markets mean for Maine communities – and what emerging markets here mean for the world.

ecomaine CEO Kevin Roche will address attendees on the state of ecomaine’s recycling, waste-to-energy, landfill, administrative, and educational outreach programs during Fiscal Year 2019, and will look ahead to Fiscal Year 2020 and beyond.  Roche, who also serves as the President of the Solid Waste of North America’s Northern New England Chapter, will present Kyaira Grondin, a senior at Yarmouth High School, with the Chapter’s Steve Parker Memorial Scholarship – the third year in a row that a Maine student has won the award.

“We are exceptionally glad to have a global leader like Robin here with us,” said ecomaine CEO Kevin Roche.  “Her insight into the challenges that we are all facing will be invaluable to us as we work together on ecomaine’s regionalized approach to sustainable waste management.”

“It is a pleasure to address ecomaine’s stakeholders, particularly at this exciting time in our industry,” said Robin Wiener.  “There are some who have proclaimed ‘the death of recycling,’ but the investments being made point to a healthy future for these markets and the organizations who work in them.”

Among other themes, Roche will address the impact of education on ecomaine’s waste management programs, the state of recycling following China’s National Sword ban on recyclables, and future plans for Maine’s leading waste manager.
