Environmental 360 Solutions (E360S), headquartered in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, recently ordered a Mack LR® Electric model to help the company achieve its environmental and sustainability goals. The Mack LR Electric will operate in a residential area in either Quebec or British Columbia and will feature an automated side loader from Labrie. “Mack is pleased that E360S opted to make its first electric refuse vehicle purchase a Mack LR Electric model,” said Jonathan Randall, Mack Trucks senor vice president of sales and commercial operations. “As the industry continues to move toward electrification, Mack has an ongoing commitment to fulfill customers’ sustainability goals, as well as Mack’s goal of having 35 percent of its sales be for electric vehicles by 2030.”

Founded in 2018 by Donato Ardellini, E360S is dedicated to becoming North America’s leading environmental management company. E360S, based in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, provides environmental and waste management solutions to municipalities, industrial commercial and institutional customers. The company operates in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

E360S currently has more than 170 refuse vehicles and wanted to add an electric vehicle to its fleet. The company began researching, and Mack was its top choice, said Gio Procaccini, E360S director of fleet and branding. “We have a great relationship already with Mack Trucks, and we knew that the next generation Mack LR Electric was the vehicle we wanted to purchase,” Procaccini said. “Mack has a strong presence in the refuse industry, and the LR Electric is based on proven technology so we are very much looking forward to receiving our order.”

The next generation Mack LR Electric, launched in March 2022, offers a standard 376 kWh total battery capacity for 42 percent more energy and increased range between vehicle charges. Twin electric motors produce 448 continuous horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM. Equipped with four NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) lithium-ion batteries that are charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, the batteries power the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. Energy from the two-stage regenerative braking system is recaptured from the hundreds of stops the LR Electric makes each day as its load increases.

The LR Electric is easily recognizable because it features a copper-colored Bulldog on the cab, denoting the all-electric powertrain. The LR Electric offers the same driver- and passenger-side configurations and seat and door options as those that are available on the diesel-powered Mack LR model. The LR Electric also can be fitted with bodies from various manufacturers to meet each customer’s unique set of needs. Procaccini said the process of ordering the vehicle was simplified by Mack and the deal was quickly signed by all parties. Procaccini said E360S plans to order more LR Electric models. “The industry, and the world, is going to be more green, and we want to be on the forefront of that and order more Mack LR Electrics for residential areas,” Procaccini said.
