The City of Fairfield recently launched the Fairfield Recycling Guide to help assist the public learn how to properly sort and recycle their waste to reduce contamination. The Fairfield Recycling Guide is an online tool that allows residents and businesses to easily see what materials are recyclable and/or compostable, and how to properly dispose of this waste by using the right container. The Recycling Guide also has tips and tricks for residents to alternatively reuse or recycle their waste, as well as the locations to drop off hard-to-dispose items.

The Fairfield Recycling Guide is part of the City’s sustainability and Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) goals. SB 1383 was signed into law in 2022 and establishes statewide organic recycling requirements for both residents and businesses in an effort to reduce statewide emissions of short-lived climate pollutants and greenhouse gasses. SB 1383 requires that residents and businesses separate all organic waste, such as food waste and yard waste, from the garbage so this material can be diverted from the landfill.
