Angel Veloz, a garbage truck driver in Waste Pro’s Fort Myers division, has become the first driver to win the company’s $10,000 Safety Award four consecutive times. Veloz previously won in 2015, 2012, and 2009. Veloz, who has been with Waste Pro since 2006, has also received national recognition for his safe driving habits. In 2016, he received the coveted National Waste and Recycling Driver of the Year Award, which is presented to drivers who “operate their trucks in a safe and responsible manner, have outstanding performance records, and whose contributions have enhanced the overall safety and image of the solid waste industry.”

“Angel has exemplified our brand, ‘The Distinguishable Difference,’ since the day he joined our team,” said Keith Banasiak, Regional Vice President of Southwest Florida.

The safety of drivers and helpers is paramount at Waste Pro. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there were nearly 4,000 accidents involving a garbage truck in 2016. The risks our crews face every day is why Waste Pro strongly believes in rewarding those who practice habits that keep themselves—and their communities—safe.

Waste Pro is the only company in the solid waste industry to offer a $10,000 Safety Award to drivers. Since the program’s establishment in 2004, Waste Pro has awarded more than $3.5 million to drivers across its southeast footprint. To earn the award, drivers must go three years without accidents, injuries, or property damage, have a spotless work record, exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude, have a strong attendance record, and maintain a well-kept truck.
