People interested in helping to design a new recycling and garbage transfer station that will serve residents and businesses in south King County are invited to participate in an online open house through March 24, 2019. King County is building the new facility, set to begin operating in 2023, to serve the cities of Algona, Auburn, Federal Way, Pacific, and surrounding unincorporated areas. It will replace the outdated Algona Transfer Station, which has been in service for more than 50 years. The new facility will include features that will modernize operations, reduce community impacts, and make recycling, and the safe disposal of garbage yard waste and hazardous waste more convenient for south King County communities.

The online open house will enable people to review design concepts and offer input that will be considered by the project team. King County is also engaging the community through a Design Advisory Group comprised of representatives from local cities, nonprofit organizations, waste disposal experts, and neighboring residents.

The new facility will be located at 35101 W. Valley Highway S. in Algona, which is next to the current Algona Transfer Station. The site was chosen after a multi-year siting and environmental review process.
