A word from the President and Chairman of the OWMA Board of Directors: “It is my pleasure as Chairman of the Board at OWMA to advise you of an upcoming change in the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) leadership position at the association. On February 7th, 2020 our CEO Rob Cook will be formally retiring.

Rob has led the OWMA for over 19 years and has overseen the tremendous growth and maturation of the organization. When Rob returned to OWMA after a brief absence to create a new association in the horse racing sector, he identified the timeframe within which he would retire.

This has allowed the OWMA with Rob‘s help, to plan for finding a new CEO and implementing an orderly transition for that new individual. I’m pleased to announce that our current Director of Policy, Mike Chopowick will be assuming the CEO position next February.

The Board of Directors undertook a selection/evaluation process to identify and confirm Mike’s attributes to lead the organization. Mike has an outstanding background in association management, political advocacy and policy development.

I am confident that Mike will continue the long history and tradition of outstanding CEO leadership at OWMA. I am also confident that members will continue to provide Mike the support needed to keep OWMA steady and strong.

We are also fortunate to have reached agreement with Rob to continue for a period of time as a consultant to enable his knowledge and experience to be deployed in support of the organization and membership.

I hope you will all join me in congratulating Mike and thanking Rob for the many years of dedicated and invaluable service.”
