Meridian Waste North Carolina LLC, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, hosted a Summer Splash Bash on Saturday at their Shotwell C&D Landfill with more than 140 members of the local community. The Shotwell team hosted the event that included inflatable obstacle courses and waterslides, food trucks with complimentary treats, and a Touch-A-Truck display for attendees to see the big machines used to engineer a safe and healthy environment. Community events are becoming common at Meridian Waste’s Shotwell Construction & Demolition (C&D) Landfill as the company and the facility work diligently to change the general public’s perception of landfills and processing sites.

“We have a great green space here, and we want to share it with the community,” said Meridian Waste North Carolina Area President Josh Daher. “In addition to safe and clean environmental practices with C&D waste, we are continually adding to the natural environment with a butterfly garden and have resident rabbits, foxes, small birds, and many other North Carolina native animals calling the area home. We do hope that by inviting the community out, we can dispel some of the myths about landfills while providing a meaningful experience here at Shotwell that leads to better education and a greater appreciation of the essential workers who manage the waste and debris of the community.”

Shotwell C&D Landfill is a partner in Green Building, which is the process of using an environmentally responsible and resource-efficient approach to construction. With a dedication to Green Building, Meridian Waste helps conserve more natural resources and landfill space by recycling economically-viable construction and demolition debris.  Recycling materials include treated/untreated wood, shingles, sheetrock, brick, concrete, dirt, asphalt, metal, aluminum, copper, cardboard, paper, carpet, carpet padding, and clean plastic.

In October, the Shotwell C&D Landfill plans to host its second Charity Pumpkin Patch with all proceeds from the sale of pumpkins being donated back to the community.  Like the Summer Splash Bash, free family-friendly activities will be plentiful making every Saturday in October a special event.
