Metro Public Works and Urban Green Lab, a nonprofit that teaches communities how to live sustainably, are partnering on a new educational series titled “Sustainable in the City: Thinking Upstream” focused on how Nashvillians can better reduce, reuse, and recycle, and live a more sustainable lifestyle.
Free and open to the public, the series will be hosted by Metro Public Works’ Waste Reduction Program Manager, Jenn Harrman, and Urban Green Lab’s Sustainability Education Manager, Patrick King. “Sustainable in the City: Thinking Upstream” will feature interviews, presentations, and panel discussions with Nashville’s top experts in all areas of waste and sustainability.
This virtual series will be offered twice per month with new episodes airing on the second and fourth Wednesday at noon. Participants will be able to sign up for the live webinar events through both Public Works’ Metro Nashville Zero Waste Facebook page and Urban Green Lab’s Facebook page. Each episode will be recorded and available on Urban Green Lab’s YouTube channel, Public Works’ Metro Nashville Zero Waste Facebook page, and Urban Green Lab’s Facebook page, for those who miss the live event or want to share it with family and friends.
“Sustainable in the City: Thinking Upstream” will kick off this month with two events taking a deep dive into the world of plastics recycling. With so many questions about what can and cannot be recycled and why, Metro Public Works and experts from Lipscomb University and Vanderbilt University will discuss how plastics are recycled in the Southeast and why plastics recycling is so confusing. Other series topics will go beyond recycling to explore how we can reduce the waste we send to landfill and create a more sustainable Nashville for the future of our community.
