This week’s Safety Monday, presented by Waste Management, is a reminder that February is Heart Health Month and includes important tips for healthy eating and exercising to support good heart health. “As we near the end of February and Heart Heath Month, we want waste collection workers to become more heart healthy,” said Kirk Sander, chief of staff and vice president of safety and standards for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA). “Eating healthy and getting more exercise are easy steps we can take to promote a healthy heart.”

Safety Monday is a free weekly e-newsletter from NWRA available to anyone who requests to receive it. It is often used by safety professionals and supervisors during their meetings to provide important reminders to their employees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Safety Monday e-newsletter has provided resources to reduce the spread of the illness as well as usual reminders about safe driving, collection practices and staying healthy.

“We are pleased to provide this industry-renowned safety resource to anyone for free,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “Safety information should be shared and not put behind a firewall or be marketed as a benefit of an association’s membership. We want to help the entire industry be safer.”
