A pair of sanitation workers rush to rescue a drowning dog during a storm.Jeff Moran and Johnny Hall said it all started when a woman covered in mud came running out into the street and waved for them to stop their sanitation truck. They said what happened next was just part of the job of serving the community.

Five year old Daisy is ready to play and hungry for treats. She’s celebrating surviving a pretty traumatic experience from a few weeks ago during all that heavy rain. “All I could see was her nose and her little eyes and she was in terror, like please help me,” said Daisy’s owner Tina Lea.

Tina says she chased an animal under the deck and got stuck. As the rain water continued to rise, she was struggling to breathe. “All I could see was her thinking, mom, save me, save me!” said Tina. Tina grabbed a shovel and tried to make a hole for Daisy to crawl out. “That root, it would not break,” said Tina.

When that didn’t work, she called 911 and Animal Services, both saying they couldn’t help. That’s when Tina, frantic for a solution, heard a loud noise. “And then I heard like a truck, a big utility truck, and I thought a big truck equals men, and I was covered in mud, it was pouring rain, and I ran around to the other side of the house and it was the garbage service,” said Tina. The drivers, Jeff Moran and Johnny Hall jumped out and followed Tina to the deck, where they grabbed a crow bar and went to work removing two boards.
