Effective January 1, 2020, Peoria Disposal Company (PDC) will no longer provide hazardous waste treatment services to its customer base. For the remainder of the the 2019 calendar year, PDC will continue to provide hazardous and non-hazardous waste transportation and treatment services to customers. Additionally, PDC will assist them in finding a future outlet to manage their hazardous waste stream(s). Unlike, its non-hazardous waste services division, where PDC has developed recycling collection and processing capabilities, PDC has not been successful in developing similar capabilities for the hazardous waste market that it serves. PDC has realized that it cannot continue to be a viable player in the hazardous waste market without becoming a hazardous waste recycling company.

PDC will continue to operate the Waste Stabilization Facility and the Waste Water Treatment Plant for the treatment of non-hazardous wastes at the PDC Landfill No. 1 Facility. It will also continue to perform maintenance on its heavy equipment for all of its affiliated operations at this location. Finally, the PDC Technical Services and Environmental Affairs departments will continue to operate out of this location. The only change that will be occurring at this location is the suspension of hazardous waste treatment operations on January 1, 2020.

“On behalf of my family and the senior management team, this decision was a difficult but necessary one to make. Nevertheless, we believe that it was the right one to make for the future viability of our company,” says Christopher Coulter. “PDC has invested significant capital in all of its business segments recently, except for its hazardous waste treatment operation — which represented less than 5 percent of the company’s overall revenue in 2018.”
