After 53 years in business, Pete’s Rubbish Hauling will no longer serve St. Paul residents. The company has sold its St. Paul area to Waste Management, which took over garbage collection for the hauler. Pete’s Rubbish will continue to serve its other existing markets, such as Rush City and North Branch, as well as Chisago and Isanti counties. The family-owned company is based in Rush City.

Consolidation within the trash hauling industry had begun long before the city of St. Paul entered into an agreement with its haulers and commenced organized trash collection last October, but the pace has picked up in recent months.

A year ago, 15 trash hauling companies served St. Paul. Now six remain — Republic, Waste Management, Aspen Waste, Gene’s Disposal, Highland Sanitation and Advanced Disposal.
