Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s office of solid waste recycling, several Beaufort County boat landings and fishing piers now offer recycling opportunities for plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
Residents and visitors who use these access points are urged to place trash in the waste receptacle and separate their bottles and cans into the new recycle bins.
Nine “twin the bin” dual units have been purchased and placed at:
- Alljoy boat landing, 265 Alljoy Rd. (May River)
- Broad River boat landing, 1050 Robert Smalls Pkwy. (Broad River)
- C.C. Haigh Jr. boat landing, 1640 Fording Island Rd. (Mackay Creek)
- Cross Island boat landing, 68 Helmsman Way (Broad Creek)
- Edgar Glenn boat landing, 305 Okatie Hwy. (Chechessee River)
- Factory Creek fishing pier, Sea Island Parkway (Factory Creek)
- H.E. Trask Sr. boat landing, 325 Sawmill Creek Rd. (Colleton River)
- Parris Island boat landing, 50 Marina Blvd. (Battery Creek)
- Port Royal boat landing, 50 Sands Beach Rd. (Battery Creek, Beaufort River)
DHEC has launched a program called RecycleMoreSC, a public-private partnership to promote the benefits of recycling. The county has aligned its goals with a statewide initiative to increase recycling to 40 percent by 2020.
