The Houghton County Board of Commission, the County Transfer Station, Waste Management, and the Copper Country Recycling Initiative announce the beginning of drop-off single stream recycling at the Transfer Station in Atlantic Mine. Beginning Thursday, April 22, a “Teepee Bin”for recyclables will be available for patrons who separate recycling items from trash.

The recycling bin will be available from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only. No recycling services will be available on Mondays, Fridays or Saturdays. Larger loads and initial prices are subject to change and consideration. Single stream and accepted items for the Teepee include: residential only glass, plastic with the recycling symbol, tin and aluminum cans, cardboard (flattened), and paper. Note: Items must be clean.

The following items are not accepted: plastic bags of any kind, packing foam or Styrofoam (polystyrene), containers that have held toxic material such as motor oil, tissues or paper disposables such as hand towels/paper plates/paper cups/ freezer food boxes. Note: cardboard now will be going into the Teepee, and will require the same payment for disposal. Flyers to help the public understand what is acceptable will be posted on site. The materials listed here will remain as regular materials, and will need to be properly disposed of as regular trash.
