New York-based electronics recycler, Sunnking launched online registration for its first free electronics recycling events of 2021, including an Earth Day kickoff event.
The first free collection will occur in North Syracuse on Saturday, April 17, in the parking lot of Cicero-North Syracuse High School (6002 NY-31) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in observance of Earth Day (which is April 22).
The second free collection for Western New Yorkers will be on Saturday, May 1, at the Eastern Hills Mall in Williamsville (in front of The BFLO Store) from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The third free collection will occur Saturday, May 15, in Batavia at the Genesee County Department of Social Services (5130 E. Main St., #3) from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Due to health and safety protocols, residents are REQUIRED to register for a dedicated drop-off appointment time.
In 2020, 8 of the company’s 12 events throughout New York State “sold out” of available time slots for residents to drop off their devices. “We’re really excited to see how many people will carry over that excitement for recycling that we witnessed last year,” said Robert Burns, Director of Marketing for Sunnking. “Throughout the winter we’ve had New Yorkers from all corners call us asking when the next event would be and now, we can give them the first few dates to look forward to.”
Sunnking, New York State’s first R2 certified recycler, has offered no-cost collections in Western and Central New York since 2010, collecting an average of 100 tons of electronics per event. “Thousands of people have clearly used the last couple of cold months at home to take inventory of their devices or upgrade over the holidays and now is their chance to take back their space the responsible way,” said Burns.
Health and safety procedures will again be in place to ensure a safe environment, including timed appointments, no-contact device removal, and dedicated drive-through lanes. Drivers are asked to stay in their vehicles and pack their devices in their trunks or truck beds.
