Several times a year, SWACO partners with local municipalities to keep Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) out of the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill by offering drop-off events throughout the Central Ohio Region. SWACO contracts with Environmental Enterprises Incorporated (EEI) to offer free residential recycling of HHW for Franklin County residents during these events.

The first mobile collection event of 2021 will be held on Saturday, May 8, from 8 am to 2pm in the City of Dublin at the City of Dublin Fleet Building, 6351 Shier Rings Road, Dublin, Ohio

It’s important to properly dispose of HHW and divert as much as we can from entering the landfill. HHW can be harmful to the environment, and these mobile collection events offer residents the opportunity to properly discard of items like old batteries, unused household cleaners, gasoline and motor oils.

Identifying HHW is easy. Look for key words on the container such as poison, danger, caution, flammable, corrosive, or use in a well-ventilated area. Households generate a wide range of poisonous, dangerous, flammable and corrosive products, including lawn chemicals, solvents, household cleaners and pool chemicals. These materials should not be tossed out with household garbage but should be taken to a mobile collection event or the permanent facility located at 645 E. 8th Avenue in Columbus (43201). Some accepted items include:

  • Flammables
  • Gasoline mixed with oil
