Tetra Tech, Inc. announces that Debra Darby, CCP, TRUE Advisor, Tetra Tech Manager of Organics Sustainability Solutions, has been elected to the New Jersey Composting Council Board of Directors. The nonprofit NJCC’s mission is to advance compost manufacturing, compost utilization, and organics recycling to benefit its members, society, and the environment in the state of New Jersey.

“We are excited to add Debra Darby as a new board member to the New Jersey Composting Council,” said Jairo E. Gonzalez, NJCC President and Trustee. “Each day we get inquiries from towns and communities looking to start or expand their composting program, so we are thrilled to have someone like Ms. Darby, who has extensive experience in this area.”

“Being a part of the council is an important way to support organics diversion and organics infrastructure to help clients comply with New Jersey’s organics legislation,” said Darby.“While commercial organics bans place the burden for source separation and diversion of organics on the commercial food waste generator, solid waste facilities can also play an important role in managing food waste in a manner consistent with the legislation. Moreover, as states and municipalities aim to implement zero waste strategies, organics is one of the primary materials to divert from the municipal solid waste stream.”

Organics is the next solid waste commodity, and Tetra Tech is Leading with Science® to assist public and private clients transition towards effective organics resource management whether the goal is to increase throughput from an existing facility or the expansion of facilities to meet demand challenges.
