Green Innovations Solutions (GIS)

Green Innovations Solutions (GIS) located in Laveen Village, AZ is in the business of designing zero waste programs for companies, counties, cities, states and townships. Through the use of the company’s innovative mobile/stationary equipment and processes, up to 95 percent of waste headed to a landfill can be repurposed into other uses. With a mission is to divert waste form the landfills of America, GIS processes landfill directed plastics, PVC pipes, carpet, wood, fiberglass, styrene, telecommunications cable and other solid waste including household trash. The processed material is then available for use in a variety of products or processes including refuse derived fuel, slurry, insulation and pre-cast concrete products. Examples of concrete products include:

• Jersey Barriers
• Housing
• Slurry
• Driveway Pavement
• Sidewalks
• Soundwalls
• Table tops and counter tops
• Utility pads for equipment

Aside from using processed carpet in concrete products, it is perfect for insulation and with further processing, materials used in the manufacturing of automobile parts can be derived. Carpet is a major component of the waste stream in America and diverting it from the landfill has been a problem. GIS has no limitations on the type of carpet it will process and use in its products. There are 3.5 billon tons of carpet landfilled every year and in 2013, Yale University calculated that the waste across the country sent to the landfills rose to 294 million tons and has since been increasing, while taking up valuable real estate and emitting CO2 gas into our atmosphere.

Another innovative solution for the use of their processed materials is the GIS Jersey Barrier. Each Jersey barrier contains 766 pounds of trash and 376 pounds of cement. That is 766 pounds of material that is diverted from a landfill. The barriers are lightweight and energy absorbing. The weight of a standard 8' concrete Jersey barrier is 3,660 pounds. GIS’s standard barrier is 5' in length and weighs 1,142 pounds. GIS units are stackable (up to 8') on the top and connectable on the sides. Barriers may be perfect for sound barriers or as a replacement for sandbags in a flooding emergency. The price of 15' of our Jersey barriers is about the same as the price of one standard 8' concrete barrier.

2018 Isuzu FTR

Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. (Anaheim, CA) announces that production of its all-new entry in the Class 6 medium-duty truck segment—the 2018 Isuzu FTR—will begin in May of this year. The F-Series truck, which will be assembled at a new 85,000-square-foot Spartan Motors facility in Charlotte, MI, will have a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $82,180. Orders for the truck will be accepted in the beginning of April, 2017.

The FTR will be powered by the Isuzu’s renowned Isuzu 4HK1-TC 5.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine—a first in the segment. Isuzu also announced that this engine now carries a B-10 durability rating of 375,000 miles—meaning that 90 percent of engines should reach that mileage before requiring an overhaul. This represents an increase of 65,000 miles from the engine’s previous (and already robust) 310,000-mile B-10 rating. Other technical highlights include:

• The FTR’s turbocharged Isuzu 5.2-liter 4HK1-TC engine generates 520 lbs.-ft. of torque at 1,650 rpm and 215 horsepower at 2,500 rpm
• The engine is mated to an Allison 2550 RDS six-speed automatic transmission with power take-off (PTO) capability
• The front axle has a capacity of 12,000 pounds, while the rear axle has a capacity of 19,000 pounds
• GVWR is 25,950 pounds
• 11R22.5 tires are fitted to 22.5" × 8.25" steel wheels

An incredible cruising distance can be achieved by the FTR, thanks not only to the truck’s miserly use of fuel, but also its available aluminum 50- or 100-gallon fuel tank dependent on wheelbase. The Isuzu FTR, like every Isuzu diesel truck, comes with a suite of features and programs that dramatically reduce downtime and overall cost of ownership, including:

• A standard multi-information display that allows drivers to monitor the status and condition of more than a dozen vehicle performance functions, reducing maintenance costs and downtime
• Available vehicle health reports provide comprehensive analysis of the truck’s powertrain and emissions systems, fuel economy, brake usage and driver operating habits
• Three-year/unlimited mileage powertrain limited warranty
• Four-year/unlimited mileage perforation from corrosion limited warranty.

Momentum Fuel Technologies’ Roof-Mount System

Momentum Fuel Technologies’ (Roanoke, TX) roof-mount configurations of its CNG fuel system are specially designed for the refuse industry. Momentum has been working with refuse body manufacturers to ensure the entire line of Momentum CNG fuel systems is integrated with refuse bodies and a wide variety of other truck bodies to meet the needs of waste customers.

Momentum’s roof-mount system includes tanks that are designed to be lighter than others in the industry, and the entire system is designed to be lighter and more efficient when compared to industry standard roof-mount configurations. The design of the nose of the roof-mount system incorporates three separate alloy steel pieces to protect the CNG system from tree limbs and other damage. If damage to the nose does occur, it is easier, safer and less expensive to repair or replace one or more segments rather than the entire nose. In addition to the roof-mount configurations, Momentum’s product line also includes six back-of-cab configurations (70DGE, 75DGE, 87DGE, 115DGE, 150DGE and 175DGE) and three side-mount configurations (30DGE, 40DGE and 45DGE), both proving to be popular with refuse customers due to their durability and, especially in the case of the back-of-cab systems, compact design requiring little mounting space.

Each Momentum fuel system includes a fuel management module (FMM), which houses the electronics, fuel filter and fuel-fill receptacles and is conveniently located where the driver fuels the truck. Constructed of highly-durable aircraft aluminum with a powder-coated exterior finish and Huck-bolted access cover, the compact design incorporates Parker O-ring fittings, gauges, fill ports and valves with a simplified filter access through the bottom of the module. The FMM works in conjunction with the RushCare® telematics platform, allowing fleet managers to monitor their usage stats and better manage their fuel consumption.

A comprehensive pressure relief device (PRD) network vents fuel in the system out through vertical vents in case of fire or other emergency. The PRD is engineered for rugged off-road use and is fitted with weatherproof caps to protect the system from environmental elements. The PRD lines are coated in red to indicate to service personnel that the entire system must be completely purged before servicing the PRD system. With safety in mind, all high-pressure fuel lines in Momentum systems are painted yellow, for easier identification by technicians.

Momentum’s roof-mount systems provide the industry’s best capacity by using tanks which are one-inch larger in diameter than competitive systems and hold more fuel in the same amount of system space as most existing designs. Fuel use is improved due in part to an efficient fuel pressure regulator with a high-capacity filter manufactured by Parker, which is also part of the FMM. With this regulator, drivers can go further on a tank of fuel when compared to current system limitations, as the regulator enables the vehicle to operate from 3,600 pounds per square inch (PSI) when full to a minimum 230 PSI. The regulator is designed to reduce leak points and weight, and the high-capacity filter is larger than most competitive products, so it can be serviced less frequently. New and replacement parts for these systems are manufactured in-house by Momentum Fuel Technologies, ensuring quality and improving speed to customers. Roof-mount, side-mount and back-of-cab systems are in production for immediate delivery.

Momentum Fuel Technologies offers the industry’s first complete CNG fuel system solution for Class 6 to Class 8 trucks, with comprehensive support from design and manufacturing, to sales and ongoing service throughout the product lifecycle. This product line was developed after thousands of hours of customer interviews and is focused on innovative design, advanced safety features, installation expertise and the industry’s most comprehensive sales, service and support network.
