The Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA) is commending their longest serving Director, Placer County Supervisor Robert Weygandt, for his nearly three decades of valuable and dedicated service and wishes him a long and happy retirement. WPWMA staff will be presenting a resolution commending Director Weygandt for his 28 years of service to the WPWMA at the Authority’s December 8, 2022, public meeting.

“During his time on the Board, Director Weygandt has been instrumental in the continued evolution and growth of the WPWMA,” said Ken Grehm, WPWMA Executive Director. “His leadership and vision have helped the WPWMA achieve broad and lasting recognition as a leader within the solid waste community, generate over half a billion dollars in revenue, and recover nearly four million tons of material for recycling and reuse.”

Most notably among Director Weygandt’s achievements, he was involved in the completion of construction and initial operations of the original Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), multiple retrofits including a major expansion of the MRF in 2005 and finally the WPWMA’s recent plans to upgrade the MRF to comply with the strict requirements of SB 1383.

Director Weygandt’s commitment to higher education and fostering local job development was evidenced by his dedication to, and support of, a Memorandum of Understanding between William Jessup University and the WPWMA for onsite student-lead research projects; a Master Services Agreement with the Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at California State University, Sacramento and the WPWMA related to developing a local circular economy; and the Sierra College – Energy 2001 joint project to provide hands-on photovoltaic solar array planning, design and installation experience to students in Sierra College’s Construction and Energy Technology program.

“We are grateful for how Director Weygandt helped shape the WPWMA’s facility master planning effort that will ensure the WPWMA is able to continue to provide the highest quality, most cost-effective services to the citizens of western Placer County well into the future,” Grehm said.

Director Weygandt is the longest serving member of the WPWMA Board of Directors, having served with seventeen directors from the WPWMA Member Agencies since he started in January 1995. Additionally, Weygandt served as Chair of the Board in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018.
