Coast Waste Management Association Conference 2016: The Social Life of Waste

October 19, 2016 - October 21, 2016

This annual conference and its theme, “The Social Life of Waste”, will bring together waste and recycling professionals to network and explore leading edge topics that affect the waste management and recycling sector today.  Starting the conference this year are two renowned sustainability experts. Dr. Jennie Moore is an Associate Dean of Building Design and Construction Technology programs at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Jennie currently serves as a core advisor to the International Ecocity Framework and Standards, an exciting international initiative aimed at developing performance metrics to bring cities in balance with nature. J.D. Lindeberg, President of Resource Recycling Systems, a Michigan-based firm that specializes in sustainable resource strategies and waste recovery solutions, worked on the Roadmap to Reduce U.S. Food Waste report and has firsthand knowledge on mixed waste processing or “dirty MRF” facilities and how they fit into the recycling landscape of today.

Building on our successes from past conferences, the planning committee is hard at work developing a full program with topics and presenters covering a broad range of subjects. Some of the potential topics include; Managing Waste After a Natural Disaster, Industry Safety, Remote Community initiatives, Abandoned vessels, Ocean Waste & Pollution in the Marine Environment, and Funding Waste & Recycling Systems.
