Marking the start of a business that has grown from one owner-employee and one truck in 1947 to 93 employees and a fleet of 37 trucks in 2017 calls for a celebration. About 100 employees, customers, business leaders, friends and local elected officials gathered at Terrace on the Park in a salute to Thomas “Pop” Toscano, founder of Mr. T Carting, based in Glendale.

Mr. T Carting is one of the ten oldest family-owned businesses in Queens and one of the six largest private carting companies in New York City. It is known as an innovator, especially in the area of food waste. With nearly half of its customers in food-related businesses, the company gathers food waste in source separated organic waste disposal and directs it for compost. Mr. T began offering this service in 2006, before it was required to do so.

Nearly half of Mr. T’s employees live in Queens and the company has expanded its service area from Glendale to cover the entire borough, plus all of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Don Capalbi, representing Congresswoman Grace Meng (6); State Senator Joseph Addabbo (15); City Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley (30); Community Board 5 Chair Vincent Arcuri; Deputy Commissioner for New York City Sustainability and Storm Resiliency James Gennaro of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; and Queens Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Grech were among those extending their congratulations and warm wishes for success. The Department of Sanitation sent a citation to commemorate the occasion.
