New legislation has taken effect in Arkansas that will impact how much Arkansans pay for their tires. The Tire Management and Recycling Act—also known as Senate Bill 606—aims to overhaul regulations that prohibited tire dealers from charging customers additional fees for disposing of their tires, as tire officials have stated that tire districts were not making much money off previous programs.
Now, that all changes. For more than two decades, Arkansans have been paying a rim removal fee of $3 per tire, which previously covered disposal fees.
And while that removal fee still exists, it will no longer cover tire transportation costs under this new legislation. Kevin Wilson, a tire transporter and the owner of Big K Tire in Pine Bluff, says this opens the door for tire dealers to charge customers more.
