The Don’t Waste LA Coalition, committed to lifting environmental and safety standards in L.A.’s commercial waste and recycling industry, eagerly anticipates a vote by the Los Angeles City Council to finalize waste hauling contracts to service LA’s eleven new commercial waste zones.  The final list of seven haulers have been proposed by city staff based on haulers’ ability to meet stringent environmental requirements established by the City’s new Zero Waste LA exclusive franchise system.

Adopted in April 2014, the sweeping overhaul is set to make Los Angeles a national leader in modern and sustainable waste collection. Zero Waste LA will give all city residents and businesses access to recycling, expand compost collection, reduce truck pollution, improve job quality, and set the city on track for diverting 90 percent of its waste from landfills by 2025.

City leaders will join environmental and community leaders in the Don’t Waste LA Coalition immediately following the vote. Approximately 200 supporters are expected to attend.
