Thousands of Flint residents will be getting free trash and recycling carts this fall. The City of Flint is partnering with Grand Rapids-based Cascade to manufacture over 30,000 trash and recycling carts.

The 96-gallon trash containers and the 64-gallon recycling carts will be distributed for free to 30,000 residential households starting this fall, according to Mayor Sheldon Neeley.

All carts will be adorned with “Flint Strong” logos. The goal is to increase the amount of materials recycled in the city from 624 tons per year to 5,400 tons— a 750% increase.
