Soaking in the great weather in Temecula, CA, this great golf tournament was a smashing success, raising close to $12,000 for the EREF.

From April 9 – 11, 2014, the Garbageman’s Invitational was held at the Blackwater Saloon and Pechanga Resort & Casino’s “Journey” golf course in Temecula, CA. With fantastic weather and a lot of networking and plenty of golf, the Invitational went great with many of the guests commenting that it was the best event yet. More than 300 attendees gathered at the resort over the course of the event, filtering in and out of the various events, such as the opening night party, the golf tournament and the closing night dinner. “A lot of our attendees like to come in and out of parts of the event. There will be people on tours of the ranch, holding business meetings, etc. Some of the bigger companies will send their people for golf on one day and then they’ll send another group of people on the second day,” says, Kerry Holmes, Vice President of Sales for Consolidated Fabricators, and one of the founders of the event.

At the opening reception, on the first night, people danced to live entertainment band, Radio Star, while others talked, laughed, played pool and botchy ball, enjoyed hand rolled cigars and more in a relaxed environment before kicking off the golf tournament the next day. Holmes and Mike Melideo, President and CEO, from Consolidated Fabricators, Ray Burke, Vice President of Clean Energy and Mike Schwalbach, Vice President of Sales for Rehrig Pacific welcomed the guests and spoke about what people could look forward to the following few days.

At the golf tournament, held April 10 and 11, attendees enjoyed 80 degree weather, food and drinks across the golf course while conducting casual business conversation. During the cocktail party on April 11, the golf awards were handed out to the winners of the tournament—first place winners received a travel bag with the Garbagman’s Invitational logo while the second and third place winners received a monetary award. In addition, at the dinner that followed, Holmes, Melideo, Schwalbach and Burke presented a donation check to Brian Staley, the CEO of the Environmental Research and Education Foundation, while Holmes recognized the core sponsors of the event and thanked them for their help in putting on a great Invitational. Says Holmes, “We raised close to $12,000, and more donations are actually still coming in even after the event close, so we had a great turnout.”

He continues, “Many of our returning attendees thought it was the best Garbageman’s Invitational to date. We’ve been seeing this event grow annually and we expect 2015 to be an even bigger event, drawing more and more people from all over the U.S. We are looking forward to it.”
