American Beverage announced a $130,000 investment to Levy County, Florida, to support the development of a permanent, staffed recycling drop-off site. This investment, made with The Recycling Partnership, is part of America’s beverage companies’ broader commitment to strengthen recycling infrastructure in rural and underserved communities nationwide.
The new permanent facility will serve more than 55,000 residents across Levy County and replace the county’s current temporary recycling collection sites to provide residents with more consistent, reliable access to recycling. The grant will also support the transition to a single-stream recycling system and includes purchase of five roll-off containers, community education and outreach and partial funding for operational equipment.
“Reliable access to recycling shouldn’t depend on where you live,” said Liz DeWitt, President and CEO of the Florida Beverage Association. “By investing in permanent infrastructure in communities like Levy County, we’re making it easier for more Floridians to recycle bottles and cans, keeping valuable materials out of landfills and putting them back to use in new products.”
The permanent facility will expand hours of operation compared to the current temporary sites, providing residents with a more dependable recycling solution and improving operational efficiency for the county. Over the next decade, the project is projected to keep 390,000 pounds of PET plastic and 130,000 pounds of aluminum out of landfills or the environment. This investment is expected to benefit approximately 18,000 households across the region.
The Levy County project builds on American Beverage’s broader recycling investments across Florida, including previous projects in Jacksonville, Pensacola and Miami-Dade County that together have reached nearly 840,000 residents. Collectively, these efforts are projected to keep more than 6 million pounds of plastic out of landfills or the environment over the next decade.
