Machinex has been appointed by the global construction company M+W Group to provide a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for the Energy from Waste (EFW) project of
Levenseat Renewable Energy Limited in Lanark, Scotland. This first-of-kind facility, which is due to be operational in 2017, will make a significant contribution towards Scotland’s zero waste plan’ The system is a RDF & SRF preparation plant designed to process 42 tonnes of commercial & industrial waste per hour as well as municipal solid waste. The Materials Recycling Facility will produce a minimum of 100,000 tonnes per annum of high quality Refused Derived Fuel (RDF) as a feedstock for the Levenseat
Energy From Waste Plant, whilst also maximizing both the recovery of high value recyclates (such as paper, cardboard, plastics, metals and wood) and the waste diversion from landfill. Furthermore the system will produce a Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) stream from the super-light and high calorific non-recyclable waste commodities
To meet the objectives of the plant, Machinex will use the latest technologies including four (4) shredders, one (1) Machinex trommel, one (1) waste screen, three (3) air separators, two (2) Machinex ballistic separators, three (3) Machinex MACH HyspecTM optical sorting units, one (1) fluidized bed dryer and two (2) Machinex single-ram balers. To increase and assure the quality of RDF recovered from the stream of fines, which includes wet organic waste, a fluidized bed drying technology will be used. This continuous dryer is self-sustainable and will use a small fraction of the heat generated by the waste to energy plant located adjacent to the MRF.

Looking to the
future, we took care to predesign several future upgrades to ensure the evolution of the plant.’
