Rohan Wilson, a junior at Elon University majoring in environmental studies and minoring in policy studies, will intern this summer with the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) through the KIPP Federal Policy Fellows program. This will be a virtual internship given safety concerns due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am pleased to have Rohan interning with us this summer. Internships provide an opportunity for anyone interested in a profession to better understand it,” said NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “We look forward to Rohan’s contributions as he interns with us this summer.”

Wilson has a goal of dedicating his life to combating environmental injustices and ensuring that Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) populations have equitable access to low-cost energy solutions and that investments are made in BIPOC communities to ensure past transgressions are rectified.

Over the course of summer 2021, Wilson, along with other fellows in the program, will participate in internships with congressional offices and advocacy organizations, like NWRA, to further their career aspirations and knowledge of public policy. Fellows will work alongside policymakers and advocates to receive firsthand experience on how federal policy is shaped and to learn more about what a career in Washington, D.C., looks like. In addition, fellows have the opportunity to sit down with elected leaders and administration officials throughout the summer to hear about their journeys to working in policy.
