Parker Hannifin Corporation (NYSE: PH), the global leader in motion and control technologies, announced that it has received approval from the California Air Resources Board (ARB) to sell the RunWise® Advanced Series Hybrid Drive System under a dual-name Executive Order (EO) including the Parker Hannifin RunWise system, paired with the Cummins 2015 model-year engine. These certified hybrid vehicles can help improve fuel economy and efficiency in California refuse fleets by up to 50 percent. The RunWise hydraulic hybrid system replaces a conventional transmission and delivers increased productivity by accumulating energy from the vehicle’s braking system. On average, a RunWise-equipped truck captures more than 71 percent of a vehicle’s otherwise lost braking energy and uses it to accelerate the vehicle, which can save up to 4,300 gallons of fuel a year per truck. “We are pleased to be an ARB certified fuel-efficient option for the heavy-duty vehicle market in California,” said Shane Terblanche, general manager, Hybrid Drive Systems Division at Parker Hannifin. “This represents a significant milestone for our RunWise system and further validates our technology’s notable fuel and emissions reductions.” With more than 2 million miles of operation, RunWise is the only fully integrated advanced series hydraulic hybrid drive system for commercial trucks on the market today benefitting more than 30 cities across the United States.
