Just three months after they were removed, the purple glass recycling bins are back with a new look. Ashley Millerd with the city of Waco’s waste department says they have taken a more active role to bring the bins back. “And we saw such promising numbers out of this program, people actually utilized it. We had to bring it back, it wasn’t an option to just let it go.”

Carole Fergusson with Keep Waco Beautiful says that they saw good results come out of the recycling program and wanted to keep the momentum going. Fergusson says that “within six months of the program that we’ve had this past year we recycled more glass within six months than we did the entire year of 2022.”

Fergusson says that having bins available allows everyone to do their part in helping Waco remain sustainable. “It’s a win-win for everybody, landfill is less full which down the road costs us a lot of money and obviously a lot of emissions, and then our residents are happy because they have the resources and accessibility to recycle.”
