At the 35th annual Waste Expo in Las Vegas this week, old friends, new contacts, attendees and exhibitors all mingled together at a packed convention center situated in a prime spot in the city. From the Welcome Reception to the informative education sessions and the show floor, the Waste Expo was the place to be the first week of June. The Welcome Reception, located at the Paris Casino’s Chateau Nightclub and Garden, spanned two floors and kicked off the event with great food samplings, drinks and conversations between those old attendees and new attendees talking about who and what they were going to see at the show. With great weather, a fantastic location and a prime view of the Vegas strip, attendees enjoyed the party as a relaxing preview of the week to come.

Co-located with the Investor Summit and the Healthcare Waste Conference, attendees were treated to informative discussions at the education sessions on Monday and Tuesday,  that focused on everything from composting and recycling to management and labor considerations, as well as the traditional topics of fuel efficiency, safety and technology. The Keynote Presentation on Wednesday included the heavy hitters in the industry who invited people to think about the challenges facing the industry and how they have approached them, as well as the trends they see coming and what it takes to make your organization have staying power. The Lunch and Learn on Monday focused on sustainability and how to implement a program and make it successful not only in your business but also with the partnership.

Tuesday kicked off the opening of the show with the National Waste & Recycling Association’s Awards Breakfast that honored key players in the industry, up and comers as well as the great drivers of the year who have taken safety to a whole new level. After a ribbon cutting ceremony, attendees were invited into the exhibit hall to experience and see new technologies, updated programs, possible partnerships, equipment highlights and much more. The exhibit hall was packed and exhibitors were able to show some truly innovative technologies, especially in the field of recycling and composting that were not to be missed.

In 2016, the Waste Expo will be in Las Vegas again and we are all looking forward to another successful show!
