The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) officially announced its International Board Officers for FY 2015 at its annual WASTECON® conference. SWANA held elections from June to July to seat its new International Board Officers. SWANA members were given the opportunity to vote on the Election of International Board Officers, Bylaw Amendments, Private Sector Directors, and a SWANA Canadian Representative – open only to votes by Canadian SWANA members. “We are proud to announce our newly seated International Board Officers,” said Executive Director and CEO of SWANA John H. Skinner, Ph.D. “I look forward to working with each of them over the next year.” The newly elected International Board Officers will begin their duties immediately.

International President – Brian Tippetts. Brian Tippetts has many years of experience in solid waste management, recycling and leadership. In his year as SWANA’s International President, Tippetts will emphasize the resource value of materials previously wasted and work to build leadership legacies through mentoring. Brian has been a member of SWANA for more than 25 years.

International Vice President – Michelle Leonard. Michelle Leonard is Vice President and West Coast Director of Sustainable Materials Management for SCS Engineers. Michelle is a regular presenter at WASTECON® and has been a member of SWANA since 2000.

International Treasurer – Richard H. Allen. Richard H. Allen has worked in the solid waste industry for more than 23 years, having spent the last 19 years at the Salt River Landfill. Richard has served SWANA on the regional, local and national level in his 20 years as a SWANA member.

International Secretary – Jeffrey S. Murray. Jeffrey S. Murray is a Senior Project Manager with HDR and has more than 17 years of experience of solid waste consulting experience. Since becoming a SWANA member in 1998, Jeff has held several positions at the chapter level and a s a member of the Landfill Management Technical Division.

SWANA members also elected three new individuals to office: Jim Lapp (City of Edmonton) as the SWANA Canadian Representative; Joe Santangelo (Lee Supply Co., Inc.) as the Sales Category Director for the private sector; and Paul Sgriccia (Golder Associates, Inc.) as the Member At-Large Director and reaffirmed Constance Hornig (Constance Hornig Law Offices) as the Legal Category Director for the private sector.
