The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) has selected SWANA to host the ISWA World Congress in the Baltimore, Maryland—Washington, DC Metropolitan Area on September 25-27, 2017. The ISWA Congress annually brings together over one thousand solid waste professionals from around the world to network and exchange scientific and technical information, policies and case studies on a wide range of solid waste management issues. The 2017 Congress will be co-located with WASTECON®, SWANA’s Annual Conference and Equipment Exhibition, at the Baltimore Convention Center, a state-of-the art facility, conveniently located near the Inner Harbor, with a wide range of hotels, restaurants and attractions within walking distance. The Baltimore venue will provide Congress attendees with easy access to Washington, DC, creating an opportunity for the delegates to interact with representatives of national and international agencies to include these agencies in the technical programs of the Congress.

The combination of the two events will be of great benefit to SWANA members, ISWA members, and the solid waste industry as a whole.” The decision to award the 2017 Congress to SWANA was made by unanimous vote of the ISWA General Assembly, at its annual meeting on September 7 in conjunction with the 2014 World Congress held in São Paulo, Brazil. The General Assembly is the governing board of the international association and is comprised of 82 delegates from 39 National Member Countries. SWANA is the National Member of ISWA for both the U.S. and Canada. “SWANA’s mission and programs are perfectly aligned with ISWA’s objectives,” said SWANA Executive Director and CEO, John H.
