On Thursday, April 9, the Washington State Recycling Association will host an introductory legislative training for recycling professionals that will provide participants with an understanding of the legislative process and how to participate effectively. The event will be held from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Abigail Stewart House at 1002 Washington Street SE, Olympia, WA, home to the Women’s Club of Olympia. This is the second event in a new series of professional development trainings the Association will hold this year. The Washington Legislative Information Center Staff Coordinator, Gerry Sheehan, will begin the training with a presentation on how a bill becomes a law. Former Washington Secretary of State, Sam Reed, will then discuss the election process including bringing forth initiatives in Washington State, and lobbyist Mike Armstrong will provide strategies for becoming educated and informed about legislative issues. Janine Bogar and Mile Kuntz, both with the Washington Department of Ecology, will offer the recycling industry perspective, addressing how their agency responds to and moves specific legislation forward.  A tour of the Washington State Capitol Campus is scheduled for the afternoon, following a catered lunch. Professionals from all industries are encouraged to attend. The training is open to the public and includes lunch and networking opportunities with leaders in Washington’s recycling industry. Registration costs are as follows: WSRA members $65, Non-members $85 and Students $35. This event is sponsored by Call2Recycle and Recology CleanScapes.
