The purchase of Benz Sanitation by Waste Management Inc. has been postponed until the first of the year. Originally expected to be finalized Aug. 1, the deal has been held back because the buyer is waiting “on the assignment of all the contracts we are working on,” Waste Management Inc. spokeswoman Stephanie Murphy said.

“There is a process to all of this,” Benz Sanitation representative Paul J. Benz said. “Government takes time. We were hoping to get everything finalized over the summertime, but you’ve got to go through the process.”

Benz Sanitation offers waste collection, construction services, document shredding, propane services, portable toilets and septic pumping to commercial and residential clients, according to the company’s website.

After the sale is closed, the Houston-based company, which Murphy said is the nation’s leading recycling company, “will be looking at better, more efficient ways to recover recyclables.”

“It will go without any hiccups as far as service-wise,” Benz said. “My guess is that people probably won’t know.”

Benz Sanitation has 130 to 150 employees at its three facilities in Tehachapi, Rosamond and Ridgecrest. Of those employees, Waste Management plans to hire all who are eligible, Murphy said.
