Athens Services formally announces the launch of its new Sustainability Center, the first-ever dedicated to environmental sustainability for Thousand Oaks residents. The center is located at 2251 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. Residents are able to come in and learn about waste reduction, recycling and composting.

“We are so excited to offer a one-stop shop for our customers,” said Rondi Guthrie, Vice President of Government Affairs. “This will be a place to stop by to learn more about our recycling program, talk to a customer service representative about your bill, or to request a presentation from one of our Recycling Coordinators.”

The opening of the Sustainability Center comes after Athens Services was awarded the franchise waste and recycling collection contract earlier this year. The agreement creates more than 50 jobs and aims to advance recycling and compliance with new organics waste regulations. Most importantly, it will significantly reduce customer rates.

Athens will service the city with a fleet of new near-zero-emissions vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). This is a part of Athens’ commitment to invest in Thousand Oaks and to support local businesses while also hiring locals.

“It makes me happy to know that my friends and family here in Thousand Oaks will benefit,” said Kurt Dansby, Recycling Coordinator. “Being a local from the area, I can already see how the center is going to make monumental strides in increasing waste diversion from the landfills through our recycling organics program. Taking unwanted organic materials to our composting center and turning it into soils that are given back to the community.”
