The City of Palmdale and WM will hold a workshop Sept. 30 to inform residents about organic and other solid waste disposal rules in preparation for upcoming enforcement. The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, 930 East Ave. Q-9.

Waste experts will be on hand to answer questions regarding solid waste, organics and recycling. Participants in the workshop will receive kitchen counter food pails for collecting organics before they are taken to the bins.

The requirement for separating organic waste from other trash, as required by Senate Bill 1383, went into effect more than a year ago, but enforcement has been delayed to give residents the opportunity to understand the process. Previously, the green waste bins provided to residents were for items such as grass and yard clippings, but now they will hold all organic matter for disposal and will be known as organic waste bins.
