The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District is accepting applications for its annual program to educate residents about recycling, reuse, waste reduction and composting.

The sixth year of the nine-week Master Recycler program includes tours of landfills, reuse-based businesses and organic recycling facilities. The program also includes lectures on topics such as specialty recycling, manufacturing from recycled content, local reuse programs and hazardous-waste management. Participants will complete 20 hours of volunteer work to further recycling awareness and participation in their communities.

“We have a large populated county, and we know that grassroots efforts, along with good consistent information, can produce better results,” district education specialist Kathleen Rocco said. “The master recyclers become additional voices in the community and role models in their own circles to encourage people to change behaviors to reduce waste.”
