SWANA announces that Dr. Carlton Waterhouse, recently appointed as Deputy Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Land and Emergency Management, will be the opening speaker at SWANA’s Landfill Challenges Summit. Dr. Waterhouse will share his views on a number of current industry issues and Biden Administration priorities, including PFAS, climate change, and environmental justice.

Dr. Waterhouse currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Land and Emergency Management, after his appointment by President Biden in February 2021. He is an international expert on environmental law and environmental justice and lectures globally on climate justice and group-based inequality.

Dr. Waterhouse began his legal career as an attorney with the EPA, where he served in the Office of Regional Counsel in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Office of General Counsel in Washington, D.C. At the EPA, he served as chief counsel for the agency in several significant cases and as a national and regional expert on environmental justice – earning three of the Agency’s prestigious national awards.

SWANA’s Landfill Challenges Summit will bring together landfill, landfill gas, and biogas professionals from throughout the United States and Canada. Industry experts from the public and private sectors will also discuss current and future challenges that are expected to impact landfill operations and landfill gas production, and what lessons can be applied as we move forward.
