Residents of Denmark will soon have a new way to recycle their paper, cardboard, metal, and glass.  In signing a recycling contract with ecomaine, the town signaled its support for single-sort recycling as a way to keep valuable materials out of Maine’s landfills. “We are really pleased to be partnering with ecomaine on our new recycling program,” said Bertrand Kendall, Denmark’s Town Manager.  “To be able to continue to offer recycling in Denmark, in addition to ecomaine’s educational programming and the fact that we know these materials will be turned into new items instead of being put into a landfill is very exciting for our commitment to sustainability.”

ecomaine Board Chair Mike Shaw added, “By including the community of Denmark to ecomaine’s members, we’re increasing the total amount of materials that we’re able to divert from Maine’s landfills from all over Maine – and now, particularly in western Maine, nearby many other ecomaine members – Bridgton, Harrison, Fryeburg, Brownfield, and others.  We’re glad to be a part of the sustainability solutions in these towns.”

The single-sort recycling program will allow Denmark residents to collect paper, cardboard, metal cans, glass bottles and jars, and hard plastic containers labelled #1-7 in one container, which will be transported to ecomaine for sorting and processing.  Residents who need more information about sorting recyclables from trash can look on ecomaine’s website, or in the ecomaine Recyclopedia mobile app, available at ecomaine.org/101.

On October 10, the Town will hold the kick-off event at the Denmark Transfer Station at 37 Hancock Pond Road from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with free recycling bins, giveaways, and information from town and ecomaine staff.
