The 2020 Federation of New York Solid Waste Association’s Conference and Trade Show runs May 17– 20 at The Sagamore in Bolton Landing, NY. Upwards of 700 attendees from over 32 states, Canada and Europe are drawn to the extensive technical program with 90 presentations and a phenomenal trade show supported by 120 major exhibitors. In 23 years, attendance has doubled and the conference has become the “Can’t Miss” solid waste and recycling event of the northeast.

Next-generation consumers and thought leaders are driving the change for more sustainable packaging and brand owners are responding with a greater emphasis on stewardship of our environment. During the Federation’s plenary session, hear how the core of Diamond Packaging’s green box sustainability initiative represents a comprehensive approach to packaging that minimizes environmental impact throughout the supply chain.

Diamond Packaging, a global industry leader in the design and manufacturing of paperboard and plastic folding cartons, is a Rochester NY-based company with over 100 years of history. They provide contract packaging services for Fortune 500 companies, including Bausch + Lomb, Coty, L’Oreal, Procter & Gamble, Revlon, and Shiseido.

The EPA defines containers and packaging as products that are assumed to be discarded the same year the products they contain are purchased. Containers and packaging make up a major portion of municipal solid waste, amounting to nearly 30 percent of total generation. According to the EPA, in 2017, the recycling rate of generated packaging and containers was 50.1 percent.

Through creative design, careful material selection, and best practices at the plant level, Diamond is able to minimize waste, reduce shipping costs and increase efficiencies – all of which support a sustainable use of resources and cultivate a positive emotional connection to the brand. Diamond achieved Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill status in 2014, becoming the first U.S. owned folding carton supplier to achieve the distinction.

During the Federation’s Keynote session Eric Longnecker, Diamond’s Senior Buyer, will delve into how this NYS business has been able to meet the packaging needs of some of the world’s largest companies while meeting their sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
