The City of Calgary has chosen a private company that will be provide residential garbage collection in the city’s northwest and some of the southwest by April 2022. GFL Environmental was selected from a number of interested companies to provide up to 25 per cent of the city’s black cart pickup services as part of a seven-year pilot project estimated to save the city up to $1 million per year.

The pilot’s goal is to compare private sector service delivery to public sector. “GFL was the highest-rated proponent based on the selection criteria, which included experience, safety, customer service, fleet and price,” Elias Tomaras, project manager with Waste & Recycling Services, said Tuesday. “We will work with GFL to ensure a seamless transition to maintain the level of service residents expect.”
