The City of Goshen has announced they will begin a curbside recycling program for their residents beginning August of this year. The city entered a contract with Borden Waste-Away. Borden will provide a 96 gallon bin in residential sites of four or less units. Borden will pick up recyclables every two weeks.

Unlimited trash pick up in the city will end per the new contract. Tags for additional trash beyond the 96 gallon bin can be purchased in a location to be determined. Recycling drop-off sites administered by Elkhart County will continue to operate at Goshen College and Elkhart/US 33 Martin’s Supermarket. Residents will not have to pay to use the basic trash and recycling services.

The city says the rising costs of solid waste removal has been rising and is the main reason for the change. The City’s trash costs have risen steadily since 2016 from $800,000 to a projected $1.6 million in 2022. During that same period, household trash in Goshen also increased, from 1,774 pounds per year in 2014 to 2,340 pounds in 2021.
