The City of Geneva, along with Kane County and vendor US Ecology, will provide Household Hazardous Waste collection, according to a news release from the county. The program is for residents, no business materials will be collected.

Residents can have Household Hazardous Waste collected from their homes once per year, in order to dispose of items such as paint products, pesticides, fertilizers, household chemicals, cleaners, auto fluids, batteries and fluorescent tubes.

For a list of acceptable items, go to the county’s recycling website at countyofkane.org/recycling. Residents can schedule a collection by calling 866-373-8357 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, or by emailing [email protected]. Once an appointment has been scheduled, a 30-gallon bag and kit with labels and instructions will be mailed and a phone call the day before the collection will remind residents to place the full bag on the porch or driveway for collection.

Kane County has provided service for residents in the northern six townships, furthest from the Naperville Hazardous Waste Facility, since 2000. Mill Creek Special Service Area, which is under the purview of the County, was added to the program in 2012.

From 2013 to 2016 Geneva contracted for a home collection service to provide residents with this service. In late-2016, the city had to cancel the program because the vendor was no longer providing the service. Partnering with the county has enabled Geneva to reinstate the program.
