U.S. EPA’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program’s (LMOP) National Landfill Gas Energy Special Session

The LMOP Special Session, free to anyone interested in participating (registration required), returns as an integral part of SWANApalooza’s Landfill Gas & Biogas Symposium. LMOP is a voluntary program that works cooperatively with industry stakeholders and waste officials to reduce or avoid methane emissions from landfills. LMOP encourages the recovery and beneficial use of biogas generated from organic municipal solid waste.

Lockwood Landfill

The Lockwood Regional Landfill is located within Storey County approximately 10 miles east of Reno. This modern, RCRA Subtitle D landfill began accepting waste in June 1969. Currently occupying approximately 350 acres of nearly 2,700-acres site, Lockwood Landfill is engineered to protect the air, surface and groundwater. In 2012, a landfill gas-to-energy facility was built to naturally derive from the organics in a landfill, making it a source of “green” energy. The Lockwood Regional Landfill also accepts certain approved special wastes as detailed in the site’s operating plan.
