Valoriza Medioambiente is one of the best environmental services companies working across Spain and South America. It has achieved this by having a highly skilled management team, and by investing in high quality vehicles and equipment. The company has been operating the recycling and waste collection service for the municipality of Alcala de Henares for several years. During this time, Valoriza have improved the service and have adopted the use of side loader collection vehicles to provide it. There are fourteen side loader units on the fleet, three 15m3 units for the collection of recyclables and waste in narrow access areas, and eleven 25m3 units are used for the remaining areas.

Valoriza operates two waste collection shifts. During the day, paper and cardboard recyclables are collected while in the night it is packaging and residual waste. A variety of 2, 200 and 3, 200 litre containers are provided across the city for use by residents, and are stored at communal collection points in the street. These containers are used for the residual waste fraction and the size of container used depends on the area’s waste production. Inside the historical part of the city, 3, 200 containers are used in conjunction with an underground collection system. The packaging and paper/cardboard recyclables are collected in 3, 200 litre containers because these material streams are voluminous.

The vehicles are powered by a mixture of Euro 6 diesel and GNC engines with the Euro 6 vehicles collecting residual waste and the GNC vehicles collecting packaging wastes. The recyclables and residual waste are delivered to the Complejo Medioambiental waste treatment plant near to Loeches for recovery. In Collado Villalba, Valoriza have been operating the recycling and waste collection service for the last two years. During this time, Valoriza have improved the collection services by using six 25m3 side loading collection vehicles, consisting of two GNC powered 26 tonne chassis, fitted with hybrid side loader equipment. Since entering operation, these vehicles have improved emissions across the city. Four low emissions Euro 6 powered 26 tonne chassis, fitted with conventional type side loading equipment, have also been added to the fleet.

Valoriza collect recyclables and waste during both day and night. The day shift collects paper, cardboard and commingled glass. These material streams are collected by the two GNC hybrid vehicles. The night shift collects packaging and residual waste using the fleet of both GNC hybrid and Euro 6 powered vehicles. All recyclable and residual waste streams are collected in 3, 200 litre containers, housed at communal collection points in the street. During the next year, Valoriza will add organic waste collection to the service in conjunction with the building of their new depot and organics recycling processing plant.

The recyclable waste streams are delivered to reprocessors so that the materials can return to the commodity chain. The residual waste is delivered to the waste transfer station at Collado Villalba. From here, the waste is compacted into hermetically sealed roll – on – off containers for transport to a sanitary landfill site. In conclusion, Valoriza Medioambiente is providing high quality recycling and waste collection services to the cities of Alcala de Henares and Collado Villalba. This has been achieved by the highly skilled management team of Valoriza enabling these two municipalities to reduce both costs and improving the local environment.
